The Harrisburg Area Transportation Study (HATS) Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) invites the public to participate in an open house to solicit input for its study of the Newville interchange, or I-81 Exit 37. This event is scheduled to occur on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Penn Township Volunteer Fire Company, located at 1750 Pine Road, Newville, PA 17241.
The open house will provide the community with updates on the progress of the Exit 37 Study, gather public input, and discuss potential improvements. Attendees will have the opportunity to view conceptual designs, discuss benefits and impacts of the improvements being proposed, and share concerns and perspectives. Representatives from HATS and project partners will be available to answer questions and receive feedback.
In addition to the open house, HATS is also administering an online public survey that will be open from Wednesday, March 12, 2025 through Friday, April 11, 2025. The survey can be accessed online via this link: https://forms.office.com/r/Bp4c8Jc28h Residents unable to access the online public survey may obtain a printed copy from the Penn Township municipal building.
“The Exit 37 Study is a significant initiative aimed at enhancing the safety and efficiency of the transportation system around Exit 37 as residents and visitors access and travel Interstate 81,” said Andrew Bomberger, Executive Director of the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission, the staff agency for HATS). "Public input is crucial to the success of this project, and we look forward to hearing from residents and stakeholders."
The project will conclude in mid-June. A final report will include an analysis of the Exit 37 interchange and PA Route 233 corridor area, as well as summarize insights received from the study process’ public engagement efforts. proposed improvements will be designed to increase the safety of motorists and reduce congestion in the study area as well as the interchange itself.
