HARRISBURG, PA -- The popular Sober Ride Home program is offering free Uber vouchers this Thanksgiving weekend in an effort to prevent DUI accidents, injuries and fatalities in the greater Harrisburg area.

Motorists who have consumed alcohol at bars and restaurants can visit the Sober Ride Home website at www.soberridehome.org to scan a QR code and access a one-time, non-renewable Uber voucher for $20 (tip not included).
The program will operate from 7 PM to 3:30 AM Wednesday through Saturday, November 26-29 (ending Sunday morning) in Cumberland, Dauphin and Perry counties.
“A lot of folks will be celebrating with family and friends this Thanksgiving, and we want everyone to get where they’re going safely,” said Andrew Bomberger, executive director of the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission (TCRPC), which partners on Sober Ride Home with Uber and Commute PA. “Using a free Uber voucher is an easy, effective way to prevent a tragedy over the holiday weekend.”
Forty percent of the region’s fatal crashes involve impaired drivers, as do 30 percent of serious injury crashes, Bomberger said. The hours of operation were chosen because the majority of DUI crashes happen during those peak periods. Local bars and restaurants will also be promoting the effort.
Sober Ride Home will remain operational through the weekend while supplies last. Restrictions apply. Users must have an active Uber account with a credit card on file to access a voucher. Visit www.soberridehome.org for complete information and program details.
The effort is made possible through a grant from the Federal Highway Administration and the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program.
TCRPC provides land use and transportation planning for the Harrisburg-Carlisle metropolitan area’s 103 municipalities and nearly 600,000 residents.
