The Benefits and Challenges of Ridesharing on the Transportation System

Uber is the world’s largest ridesharing company: it rapidly connects passengers and drivers with the seamlessness that taxi operators struggle to match. The app-based service provides the convenience of upfront pricing, a small army of drivers ready to pick up fares around the clock, and availability in hundreds of cities around the world. It has become commonplace as a way for people to get around without owning a car: it also provides extra income for those who do own cars. This webinar will discuss how ridesharing has impacted the transportation system and what are the challenges going forward. Planners will learn about how ridesharing will affect them and their communities.

Speaker: Kevin Kerr. Moderator: John Turack.

1.25 CM credits available through the American Planning Association.
