County Paratransit:

Cumberland Paratransit Services

The Cumberland County Transportation Department  (CCTD) “Share-A-Ride” service provides curb-to-curb transportation for residents of Cumberland County.  The service area is all of Cumberland County and just over the Franklin County line for medical facilities and just over the Dauphin County line to include the Capitol Complex.  To schedule an appointment you may call the CCTD office Monday through Friday 8:00 AM  - 4:30 PM.  You may call up to 3 weeks before your appointment date; but the latest you may call is by noon of the business day before your scheduled appointment.  (CCTD is closed Saturday, Sunday, and the following major holidays; New Year’s Day, Good Friday, the Friday before Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas.)

“Share-A-Ride” service is designed so that the passenger may be sharing the vehicle with other riders taking similar trips, therefore, the CCTD customer service staff scheduling your trip may ask you to make adjustments in your travel times in order to accommodate your trip, along with other riders.  Space is limited and cannot be guaranteed, there are restrictions based on service availability.  “Shared-ride” means that there must be sufficient demand in an area at a particular time to warrant having a vehicle and driver in service.  In rural parts of the County, availability is quite limited, as CCTD has limited runs to cover over 550 square miles of Cumberland County, as well as limited trips to adjoining counties.  This indicates that riders may have to be flexible in terms of when and where they travel.  Shared-ride is neither “taxi” nor “limousine” service and the availability of certain trips depends on the other trips that are scheduled at a particular time.  Many of the vans in the fleet are handicapped accessible for those that need such facilities.

“Shared-Ride” is available to any resident in Cumberland County.  All riders must be pre-registered for the service before requesting a trip.  The fare would depend on the trip purpose and if the trip would be subsidized by any of our various funding sources.  Riders may be eligible for one or more programs.
